Nishkam: Selfless Service

Peaceful march to support the Anandpur Sahib Resolution in India

Following appeals from various Gurudwaras and political representatives in the UK, Baba Ji proactively supported efforts to address lack of resolution to problems in the State of Punjab in India. Letters were written directly to the President and Prime Minister of India, and a 40,000 strong peaceful march was organised, starting from Hyde Park, London. In May 1983, Baba Ji and four prominent UK leaders handed a petition to the Indian Embassy.

During this time requests of help came directly to Baba Ji from Sant Harchand Singh Longowal and Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale. Aware of the widely felt hurt due to persistent political injustices, Baba Ji advised the marchers to meditatively do ‘Waheguru Jaap’ instead of being drawn to hurl angry or aggressive slogans.
