A historic kar sewa (community endeavour) took place at Sri Harimandir Sahib to empty and clean the existing sarovar (pool) in order to install a new water cleaning plant. On the day of the service an estimated 250,000 Sikhs gathered at the complex and lovingly engaged themselves in the task of clearing the sediment at the base of the sarovar once the water had been drained (about a quarter of the water was retained for the fish).
