The Eternal Guru

Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the eminent source of ever-living wisdom

GNNSJ (Birmingham, UK) conducts continuous readings from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji throughout the week, allowing the congregation and visitors to listen and learn from the Guru’s teachings 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This continuous reading of the sacred scripture started almost 50 years ago, and continues to this day.

A continuous reading of the revered scripture, from start to finish, is known as an akhand paath. During the 48 hours period of recitation, families who have booked an akhand paath may stay and volunteer at the Gurudwara, immersing themselves in a spiritual retreat of prayer and service.

If you are interested in booking an akhand paath, please contact us.

An Eternal Commitment

Sikhs become initiated into the Sikh faith through the amrit sanchar.

GNNSJ (B’ham, UK) conducts monthly amrit sanchars allowing Sikhs to make a life-long commitment to the teachings of the Guru. Through this ceremony, Sikhs receive nām and become members of the Khalsa Panth.

The first historic amrit sanchar distilled approximately 230 years of the service and sacrifice of all ten Sikh Gurus, into each drop of amrit, and subsequently the Khalsa’s way of life. The amrit sanchar marks a conscious commitment to the lifelong cultivation of a bond – between our atma (soul, or eternal inner being) and Param-atma (God, the Eternal Supreme Being).
