Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha’s congregation first informally gathered under the spirtual guidance of Sant Baba Puran Singh Ji in the 1950s in Kericho, Kenya. After migrating to the UK, Sant Baba Puran Singh Ji was joined by Bhai Sahib Norang Singh Ji, and together they continued to inspire Sikhs to become initiated and practice the tenants of the dharam (faith).
After many years of local congregational gatherings, Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewak Jatha was officially named in 1975 by its founder Sant Baba Puran Singh Ji. The name means a family who selflessly serves in the name of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the Sikh faith.
In the following years, GNNSJ procured a site on 18-20 Soho Road, which was lovingly renovated by the congregation members in order to establish a Gurudwara. The Gurudwara would go on to become GNNSJ’s international headquarters.
